Title: Replacement Saw blade Post by cutting42 on Apr 12th, 2004, 12:06am Hi All Great idea this forum, I will be a regular viewer. I am an enthusiastic DIY'er with a passion for power tools. I was bought a Performance Pro Mitre saw from B&Q last year and it came with a 24tooth blade. I am finally getting round to using it on good quality timber (rather than rough stuff for garden fencing etc). The problem is the blade rips the crap out of the wood on cross cuts. I clearly need a better blade so what blade is best for cross cuts in softwood? Also the size seems to be non standard it is a 210mm blade with a 18mm hole. I cannot find anything but 16mm or 30mm. Help please. Cheers Gareth |

Title: Re: Replacement Saw blade Post by Dewy on Apr 12th, 2004, 2:50am Hi Gareth, If that's the one with the laser then I will have the same trouble getting a replacement blade. I had no problems with mine. As with most saws you get breakout underneath so put a piece of scrap under the workpiece to support the cut as it comes through. I have a few lengths of 6mm ply ripped down to suppport the work. Just feed it in slightly after each cut. I hope this helps. |
Title: Re: Replacement Saw blade Post by woodsmith on Apr 12th, 2004, 2:38pm Hi Gareth, welcome to the forum, First the bad news; A 210mm 24 tooth blade is for rip sawing and not cross cutting and should not IMHO be used in a mitre saw. Why do they put one in? Because they are cheap :( I've had a look and can't find a blade the same size as the one you have. Now the good news; As it is in a mitre saw you could use a blade which is slightly smaller than supplied and Screwfix sell a 205mm 60 tooth blade with an 18mm bore for £21.99. Some Screwfix own brand is v poor so I can't recommend it but it is an option. I would go for a saw blade reducing bush from Axminster power tools part no SBB018 for £1.88 http://www.axminster.co.uk/default.asp?part=SBB018 This will allow you to buy any blade sized between 200mm and 210mm with a 30mm bore. For instance, Perform 200mm 48tooth £11.52 Axminster Freud 210mm 40tooth £26.95 Rutlands |
Title: Re: Replacement Saw blade Post by cutting42 on Apr 12th, 2004, 6:19pm Hi Guys ;D ;D ;D Wow my first post and 4 answers in under a day, I am impressed. Firstly thanks to all - love the sacrificial use of ply, I will def give that a go. Also thanks to woodsmith (Keith?) for the definative reply. Off to Axminster's I go!!!! Cheers Gareth |
Title: Re: Replacement Saw blade Post by Sean_Delere on Apr 20th, 2004, 11:41am It sounds like you have the same Mitre Saw as me. An excellent tool for the price once you change the blade and realsise the laser is not much use. This is the blade I have been using for the past year or so. https://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?ts=57542&id=19670 Sean |

Title: Re: Replacement Saw blade Post by Big Al on Apr 20th, 2004, 7:04pm You'll find when you manage to replace the blade that you may have to adjust the laser. If it wont adjust get rid of it and use the blade as your guide by lowering the blade prior to pulling the trigger to match the line you wish to cut. |

Thanks for that. I looked all over for a method of modifying but didn't spot the icon. |
