Title: Re: lowering bathroom ceiling.... Post by HandyJon on Oct 12th, 2005, 8:06pm Put battens around walls at the right height, stick up some joists on the battans at the appropriate centers for the size of plasterboard you're going to use, screw plasterboard to joists, tape joints, skim, run bath, lie in bath and look up! jobs done! :D |
Title: Re: lowering bathroom ceiling.... Post by JerryD on Oct 12th, 2005, 9:21pm The joist size (i.e. 47 x 100 etc) is dependent on the span of the room, what's the size of this room? |
Title: Re: lowering bathroom ceiling.... Post by wotamess on Oct 13th, 2005, 10:18am ..thanks Handyjon and Jerryd...but how are the new crosspieces (joists?) fixed to these battens...surely not resting on top...this would leave the battens showing! The room size is approx 2m x 4m. |
Title: Re: lowering bathroom ceiling.... Post by jasonB on Oct 13th, 2005, 4:25pm If thats the size of your ceiling then I would plug & screw 38x68 CLS along the two 4.0m walls. Then screw more CLS joists to the underside of the battens, you will need to counter bore the CLS or use long screws. Or do it as above post , notching the joists to sit over the battens. If you use tapered edge palsterboard you can tape & fill the joints to avoid skimming. Jason |
