Title: Extractor hood and short ceiling!
Post by runninwata on Feb 4th, 2011, 2:23pm

Hi Guys, My ceiling height is under 2400mm, distance from top of gas hob to ceiling is approx 1200, I need 750 from hood to hob clearance, using this hood
http://www.luxairhoods.com/index.pl?s=shop&c=LA-RND-ISL-BLK

In your experiences would it be possible to have this hood cut in height to suit the required clearances, SWMBO wants this hood and only this hood unfortunately!

look forward to any suggestions

thanks

Steve

The manual appears to suggest it can be cut down. See page 10.

However it appears to be a generic manual for all their hoods so best call them and ask about that model.  Before you cut it see the note on page 12. You may need to cut the bottom not the top. Looks like 200mm max or 100mm if you use it in recirculating mode.

Perhaps try cutting it well oversize first, to see if the finish chips. If it does then take it to a metal fabricator and let them do it. Either that or figure out a way to hide any chips afterwards.
