Just found this forum and hoping someone could help with this.

I have just moved into a house which has an open fireplace .

The rear and sides of the actual fireplace, or is this referred to as the fire box?, is tiled with large tiles approx 8mm thick. They are quite large tiles with the sides being only one tile width wide and two tiles high and the rear being two tile widths wide and two tiles high .

I have just found these are loose and need to know how these should be refixed. I have not yet removed them so uncertain of what is actually behind them.

I have searched for info on line but everywhere seem to refer to fire bricks being used inside the fire which these are not

Could anyone advise what the best material is to use?

You could also just use cement like what is found in tile grout. This will hold and not let the bricks slip as well. We ran into this problem when I was working with a Minneapolis remodeling company remodeling houses in the northern part of the midwest. Good luck on figuring out your solution.
