Title: Painting over stained tongue and groove ceiling!!
Post by thornby-clark on Mar 16th, 2012, 6:16pm

HELPPPPPP! We have large tongue and groove ceilings which have previously been either stained or varnished.  I would like to paint these white, however, I tried to do a patch test with a couple of coats of emulsion and a horrible yellowy/browny stain just comes through.  Has anyone any ideas on how to stop the staining coming through.  They are far too large to try and sand down.

many thanks for any advice.

Clean off with a good sponge down with a sugar soap solution, then key up with a mid range abrasive, then wipe AGAIN with a solution of sugar soap, then when dry apply a coat of astain block primer...

polycell do one, but mostly found in trade type outlets....
