Title: Gate bolt, both sides
Post by Lectrician on Oct 25th, 2013, 7:49pm

I am fitting a couple gates at home which are closed timber (can't reach over, around or through).  Due to where they close on the post date opening direction, I cant use gate catches. I would like to use a bolt, but be able to unbolt from both sides.  A hole through the gate for a hand would do, but I sue prefer a bolt that can be opened/closed from both sides.

Any suggestions?

something may exist i dont know
is it just to hold or secure
my thoughts a long vertical  bolts on the end off one gate with the operating handle able to swing to the inside or outside face
with "V" brackets or pins on the other gate to locate onto the bolt shaft or into the other gate as you close them together at the same time

I should say, a couple gates being different sides of the house.

It's not to secure, just to hold shut.

well then just a long bolt slot in the gate and a handle/bolt to form an upside down "L" shape welded on

whats wrong with a sulfolk latch ??

what about a surface mounted lock just use handle part but not the lock n key?

This is what it looks like.  Because of where the gate sits, and the size of the posts, a suffolk latch wont work.  The double sided bolt seems the best idea to me?

How about a bolt on the top edge

They're tall gates, 2m, or just under.

Fitted one last week with a prox tag reader!

The gates are actuall not up yet.  I wanted to keep the front of the gates level with the front of the fencing, but could set them back in the opening and use normal latches.  Would prefer to keep them forward though  :-/

Hey, cheers.  I just leave it unbolted now and use a normal gate latch!  They open outwards now anyhow!
