Title: Installing wooden floor
Post by fred09 on Apr 3rd, 2015, 12:06pm

Happy Easter and all that old baloney....  ;D
Anyone have any advice on installing engineered wooden flooring over UFH (wet, on aluminum plates between joists).  Glue, screw or nail, or even a mix? Boards will be varying lengths and 190mm wide in case that makes a difference.

Thank you in advance for any help, Ta.

Secret nailed, then a 1mm expansion gap between every 5 board.

When you turn the under floor on it must be very low around 14c then increase it 1c every week.

The boards should be stored in the space they are being fitted for at least a month.

other than that consult the manufacturer.

It depends what the recommendation is for the product.  And what the wood is.

I've seen it just secret toenailed and nailed so the nails are a feature.

Glue seems to be used on some woods, but not others, depending on expansion requirements.

Where is the wood from?  That's the best place to ask for advice really.

Looking forward to sorting out my wood floor soon!

You need to make sure the flooring is designed to be fitted over joists, that means it has to be at least 18mm thick and in as long a lengths as you can get. The big disadvantage of fitting a floor like this is if you ever need to get access under the floor there is no way that you can do so and effect an invisible repair.

I would use a flexible adhesive from granwax/Mapei in a sausage glue form.
Set out fist row in the glue and either face pin to joists or use tonge tights .
Then glue and and secret nail the remainder of the flooring.
If they are random lengths and finish in between the joists then I would go as far as pva in the side tongue and groove as well to eliminate any clicking if the side joins are a little loose.
