So I went to ikea yesterday (yes, I'm groaning myself!) and bought a light for over the dining table. The idea is it hangs from a hook in the ceiling, and has a flex that comes over the top of a ceiling rose and gets plugged in. Presumably this is so you can diy and have it all nice and dangerous but not break any rules, as the thing isn't permenantly attached.

The problem is, it's sh!t. Just can't get the fake ceiling rose to hang right. So I'm gonna have to get it wired in properly. (I was anticipating this anyway) and what I was wondering is can you get a ceilung rose that has a built in pull switch? I'm not loving the idea of hacking the plaster off to run cables to a switch, and a ceiling switch would be nice and convenient. Had a Google and can't find anything :/

Not that I've seen.

How many cores have you got at the switch?

There are wireless switch modules available.

I've read this a few times and can't work out what is going on.

You are moving the pendant that is already on the ceiling, so you will need to get cables from the existing pendant to the new one. Why do you need to remove the existing switch? There's another half of this story somewhere.

OK, I read plugged in as "connected to the existing pendant", probably because I am replacing modular fittings and thinking about plug in roses. SO yeah, with it now!

Yup, it's an additional new light. Don't want to hack the walls about as it's not that long since been decorated.

White pull switch near it it is then. Cheers lads :)

As I said though, how many cores at switch?

For example, a two gang switch with 2 x twin + E gives you four cores. If they are on the same circuit, you can share the perm live, gaining a core to use for a third switch. If this is from a close by pendant, you can take your t+e from that pendant to your new one, using a single terminal block in the doner pendant.

If that makes sense.

There isn't a switch yet, so can be as many or as few as required.

The last light on the radial lighting circuit is in the airing cupboard, which is directly above, so I'd guess it will just get added on and become the new last light on the circuit

The last IKEA lamp I saw like that had a transformer plug. Is yours 230V or 12V.

Yes, 240v and big ES fitting. Why doesn't anyone seem to use bayonet bulbs anymore?
