Hi there,
I have been looking at installing a combi boiler in our bungalow.
Having done all the heat loss calcs for all the rooms (including the loft conversion) It rather looks like I don't need anything more than about 10kW for heating.
However, she who must be obeyed likes her baths, and to give a decent Hot Water flow rate I have been advised to go for something like a 28 to 30kW combi.
Would I be better off installing separate CH and HW boilers?
or will a 30kW combi modulate down so I am not wasting vast amounts of energy?
Any advice appreciated. :-?

They do modulate down, and on most, you can enter the installer/engineer menu and tell it your heating load that you want.

Combi boiler you can modulate the heating to suit the load in the parameters as Lec said.

However depending on mains pressure and flow rate it may pay you to look at a cylinder, either unvented or standard open vented.

I when I installed the daughters "Intergas" combi, I connected a cylinder on a Y plan and used the combe for the kitchen utility, best of both worlds.

Talking of Intergas boilers I highly recommend them but you really need to consider a platinum installer to get the extended warranty and set them up correctly, same as most boilers now.

Thanks for the advice.
We have good Mains pressure and 19L/min flow rate available.
I currently have a cylinder with a Salamander whole house pump - It is these we want to get rid of to enable building works.
There is only the two of us, so the Combi solution seemed a good fit for us.
SWMBO won't mind waiting a little longer for her bath to fill!
I was already looking at the Intergas HRE 36/30, so to have you recommend the Intergas boilers has helped me make up my mind.
We do have a Platinum installer locally, so I'll use them.

One more quick question..
We currently have a programmer at a distance from the existing boiler (it doesn't have a programmer built-in)- Sometimes we are at home during the daytime. The CH runs in the mornings and evenings on program, so it would be nice not to have to go to the top of the house to switch on CH outside of programmed times.
- Can this be done with the Intergas HRE?

I have a Honeywell CM 921 on my Intergas and can turn the heating on/off from anywhere in the house. it will also take nest etc so you can control it from your mobile.
