Title: Do I need a gas safe Cert??
Post by Stu1975 on Jun 2nd, 2016, 8:14pm

Hi

I have had my boiler, (about a year old) moved into another part of the house due to an extension.

The building inspector wants a gas safe certificate for the works done ( its been a full house renovation, new rads, pipe work, pressurized system the only thing that's original is the boiler). However the plumber says that the building inspector is wrong and as its not a new boiler it doesn't need a certificate doing.

Do I need a certificate or not? what what sort of paperwork should I expect from the plumber? He is almost finished, just the shower to sort but so far I have had nothing. Should I expect to pay for any paperwork required or should he have included this within his price if he were a fair and reasonable plumber?

Any info would be great

Stu

Pretty sure that a boiler move should only be done by a Registered Gas Installer. After all there is plenty of scope to install a boiler incorrectly in the new location. Even the choice of location itself can be dangerous.

Sounds like the plumber might not be an RGI/Gas Safe registered and can't issue the required paperwork?

I don't know if another gas installer is allowed to inspect and issue a certificate for work they didn't do. Check with local registered installers.

If that turns out to be a problem confess to the BCO that you made a mistake and ask the BCO if something like a Landlords Gas Safety Inspection Certificate would be acceptable. I think these cost £50-£75.

Ask them for a building compliance certificate, it's no different moving an appliance as fitting it new, all the safety check have to be checked
