Title: Advice on blocking up a doorway
Post by steve74321 on Nov 23rd, 2016, 4:49pm

My house has separate toilet and bathroom adjacent to each other, I want to combine them into one room.
I have already removed the partition wall so the next job is to remove the old toilet door and block up the doorway, as the other bathroom door will now be the only way in.

What are my options for blocking up the doorway?  I will want it plastered both sides and might be hanging heavy mirrored bathroom cabinets on the inside.
Should I brick it up or build a stud wall with plasterboard?

What are the pros/cons of both and also approx costs if I get someone in to do it?

Thanks
Steve

If it's a stud wall you will need to stud and plasterboard. If it's  a brick wall you have the choice of bricking or studding but studding is normally cheaper, quicker and easier by far. If you are planning to hang heavy items on the wall get them to ply line before plasterboarding.  Can't give you much of an idea on price as it depends on access, your location etc but it's a couple of days work so very roughly about £400 plus materials.
