Title: Connector block rating...
Post by DIYMenace on Mar 8th, 2017, 3:47pm

I have some 4W LED under counter lights to fit in the kitchen. The ST2 connector and cable that came supplied with the lamps is rated at 2.5A 2x0.75mm2. They are to be cabled direct to mains. I have some strip connector blocks rated at 3A for join the connector cable to the mains cable. They will be wrapped with elec tape and stuffed behind the cupboard when done. Am I good to go with the 3A CB or should I use a higher rating..?

3 amp would be fine, assuming they can physically accept the conductors.

Taped up joints, even extra low voltage, is undesirable.

Thanks for the reply; I can connect up in confidence now  :)

I thought elec taping the CBs was a good idea given the amount of steam n stuff in the kitchen... You reckon leave bare?

Terminal blocks are meant to be enclosed.  Electrical tape is use for identification and as an installation aid, it is actually not intended to insulated or enclose.
