Title: Powering kitchen large appliances - best practice
Post by londonman on Mar 11th, 2017, 8:18am

If you have a run of kitchen appliances (fridge/dishwasher etc) underneath a worktop, is there a best practice/legislation for supplying power to them?

Do you put the power sockets behind the appliances?  Or do you have an unswitched socket behind the appliance fed from a wall-mounted switch located above the worktop ?

TIA

A socket in an adjacent cupboard is my preference.  If there was three in a row, that may prove tricky.  You could then install an FCU above the counter, and either a socket directly behind the appliance, or a flex outlet.  A flex outlet is preferred by the NICEIC as you then have the fuse accessible in the FCU.  Most will put a socket in though, so as not to have to cut off the plug.

Thanks, Lec.  I like the idea of an FCU above and a flex outlet below as it then is a straight run picking up the sockets along the way.
