Title: Noisy pipes/tank
Post by JRG on Mar 22nd, 2018, 6:05pm

Hi, looking for some advice please.  We are in a flat and some time ago we had a water overflow problem and a plumber came in and changed the ballcock in the water tank.  That fixed the overflow but since then there is frequently a terrible noise (like a deep whine or someone drilling through a wall) when we use the taps (both hot and cold) or when we flush the loo.  Do you think the plumber has fitted the wrong part or is there just some tweaking needed and if so can I do that ..and how?  Many thanks.

The most likely cause will be the wc ball valve, is it a Plastic type, perhaps a pic please.

You should be able to pin it down a bit by your actions in using the taps etc.

It could possibly the new ball valve but I wouldn't expect a plactic valve to be installed in the storage tank.

Hi, thanks for the reply.  The noise is coming from the water tank above the immersion heater though, not the wc cistern.   If we push the ballcock down the noise stops when the tank is refilling.  I'll attach a pic ... let me know if it helps![gallery]JRG/1521806996.jpg[/gallery]

not very often they sing but change it for an equilibrium ball valve

Ps that isn't a new valve.
