Hire or Beg Steal or Borrow.....
May 3rd, 2004, 6:56pm

OK an idea - yes wabbits have brains too.

As there are so mnay of us on this forum can we organize either a rental or borrow or beg system. We all have tools, well mine's the biggest of all of course!

There are times, for example I need to drill a large hole for extractor fan but cannot justify a large diamond cutter but maybe just maybe one of our dear old plumber friends would be happy to rent his out for a few days.

Maybe this Forum could have such a facility.

Ray

PS. On the other hand I only have things like loop impedance, insulation/continuity and RCD testers and ya need brains to use those so no use to plumbers !!

I reckon we ought to figure out how to get some of the characters on this forum system together for a laff.

How's about a Novoserve BBQ?

I know I'm gonna regret asking this question - but WTF does one need a pair of 4ft stillsons for?

I can imagine working in an oil refinery and other large manufacturing places, but can't quite place a use in the about-town marketplace.

I used to work in a steel works, and all the pipefitters possessed a set of 4' Stilsons.

If they couldn't get it undone with that, we used a flogging spanner and a "Monday" hammer.  This was so called because it weighed 28lbs, and if you used it on a Monday, you were on the sick for the rest of the week!

If that didn't work, you sent for the "fiery spanner", which was an oxy - propane cutting set and just burned the b*gg*r off, and got a new one from the stores!

Ah - good times!  I still miss it......

We had a range of different sized hammers
4lbs, 10lbs, 14lbs and 28lbs

All used for different puposes - mainly for "adjusting" the guide tackle etc.

Trying to swing a 28lb hammer is interesting to say the least!
