I would go for 5-1, sand depends on bricks-stone etc.
Try to match the existing.

Red building sand will give you a pinkish mortar, OK if it matches - if you need grey pointing, use yellow sand.

And if you need white pointing? Sharp sand? Lime mortar? Or paint! What do you suggest - the local sand is red.
