My understanding is that if you carry out work on a circuit then you are obliged to ensure that that circuit complies with the latest regs.

So if you worked on the extractor fan in the bathroom and the water pipes were not bonded you most likely wouldn't be obliged to attend to the bonding of those pipes because that wasn't part of the circuit you were working on.

But, an important consideration here is human safety. If the bonding of the pipework presented a potential health hazard then obligation shouldn't come into it - you should deal with the bonding to ensure that lives don't get lost.

Other way around, bonding is essential and therefore must be put right (if it isnt) before you do your extractor fan.

So yes you would be obliged to do the bonding.

Thanks LS! Shows how useful this forum is!

Have to admit that if confronted with such a situation I doubt I could walk past the bonding without dealing with it.

However, if you were to take action on the bonding arrangement would that then not require you to do a full earth loop test (etc) on the installation?

If doing minor works, then a minor works certificate should be issued anyway. This should also show the results of a earth loop test as well as other regulatory requirements under 16th Edition. Smiley

Yep, thats supplmentary bonding, or additional bonding if you like, and should be done just same, altho it's not run back to the Main Earthing Terminal unlike 'Main Bonding', it should be kept in the bathroom or the zone it's protecting, and between equipment, pipes etc.
