Don't think there should be any cupboards sited over a gas hob!
Minimum height for cooker hoods is 750mm if that's any help.

Trician, just looking in my Neff catalogue and they say 550mm electric, 650mm electric between hob & underside of their extractors minimum.

The ones that are level with the light pelmet will certainly not be more than this.

I have got the details for cupboards somewhere, will have a look.

Sounds like it varies from maufacturer to manufacturer.

I go by the size of cooker/hob - 900 or 1000mm gas range cooker says it has to be 750mm. Last one I fitted was an IKEA-branded Baumatic 600mm one, and that said 750mm too!

Thanks for the replies. Grin
Yeah i believe it does vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but i was told by a corgi guy the other day that he wouldn't issue a cert unless the cupboards were a specific minimum height and distance sideways from the hob.
I think it was 50mm either side and 450 minimum height for the cupboards either side of the hob. But can't remember the corgi "recommended minimum" Angry

I'm sure it's in the building regs somewhere but I couldn't find it when I looked just now. This site suggests...

http://www.callde.co.uk/safety_regulations.htm

Quote: "A Minimum of 750mm Clearance is Required Above a Gas Hob and 650mm Above An Electric Hob To a Cooker Hood. The Gap May Be Reduced To 727mm Above a Gas Hob But The Hood Must Be Cleaned Regularly To Prevent a Fire Hazard. Wall Units Either Side of A Hood Must Be At Least 366mm Above. A Minimum of 300mm Clearance is Required Either Side of The Hob If Installing Next To a Larder Unit or Flammable Material"

I believe the usual problem is the use of 60cm wide hoods over 70cm wide 5 ring hobs - which can mean the wall units either side encroach.
