how do i get a dado rail off without...
Nov 27th, 2010, 1:13pm

causing to much damage to the rest of the underservice-is there an old trick. dado is stuck to 1cm thick ply and also partly stuck to the hardboard wall..prizing it off with a chisel will do soo much damage
any ideas ...also regarding tiles is there a raised tile similar to dado that will compensate for the 1cm of the plyboard already there by previous owner...getting this board off will be a nightmare as it runs right down behind bath and sink-to much work
thanks in advance

Perhaps something like this is deep enough to sit on the top edge of the ply and cover both the edge of the plywood and the edge of the tile...

Not cheap in stone but similar things should be available in ceramic.

work along top and bottom with a broad  paint scraper tapping with a hammer

may take several passes to release

thanks guys-2 interesting replys-i think the ceramic border could work in eliminating the 1cm proud ply...and regarding the dado-i think it could be glued on and a few nails put in randomly along it for good measure--a scraper may not be strong enough but gonna give it a go-thanks again

will report back with a photo if i get any joy!
cheers

I use a slate ripper.  At first sight, it seems OTT but actually gives you a lot of control plus you can gently tap it. Great for removing tiles one by one and whole.
