hi,
i have a wooden open staircase ..i wish to block it in with the view to getting it carpeted..what would be the most suitable wood for this-obviously it wont take any wear n tear so cheaper the better

If you are taking about the risers, then  ½" ply... don't use MDF, not structurally worth it, plus ply will take the glue for the glue blocks better...
