Communal Hall - 1 wall painted a different colour
Oct 24th, 2014, 10:36pm

The communal hallway was recently painted by my local housing association (local housing association property) and it looks awful, all of the tenants are complaining.

The walls of the hall were painted magnolia, but one of the walls where the rear door is fitted was painted with a light yellow wall.  It looks like the painters have forgotten to paint one of the walls.  I asked the painters if they intended to paint the one wall the same colour as the other walls.  I was told that they have been instructed by their bosses to paint one wall a slightly different shade this will help visually impaired persons not to walk into the wall.  This is crazy, the wall is small and has a big bright red door fitted.

The difference in the two shades is very slight and I am sure that a visually impaired person would not be able to see the variations in the two shades.

Are there new regulations in place which would allow this type of thing to happen?

I just painted the end wall in my snooker hall a different colour and looks good, have seen it done many times.

Are the tenants actually paying into the decorating pot and have a right to discuss the colour scheme or just not happy with the landlords choice.

That is a good point, there is a monthly service charge which all tenants have to pay, not sure if this fee includes the decorating?

I fully understand that sometimes a wall with a different colour can look effective. But not in this case, just look at the photos.

Does look like they run out of paint, doesn't it.

Would the landlord notice if someone slapped a coat of paint on the odd walls and what could he do if no-one was seen to do it

visually impared or not, you'd be doing well to walk into that bit above the window!  Grin

think i'd be tempted to just slap a coat on in the wee small hours when everyone is asleep
