RCD mystery
Nov 11th, 2014, 6:34am

hi

To cut a very long story my fridge (Samsung American style) trips the RCD but not when plugged in through an extension lead ?

The circuit has been tested and the RCD trips at 17 and 19 Ω

The leccy said this was fine and has gone to ask his mentor for advice
but I've not heard back yet

can anyone suggest a solution?

best regards

Any extension?  Or just perhaps one?

If just one, I suspect the extension lead has no earth, either because its faulty, or has been created by a DIY bodger.

Well spotted Lectrician

It is rather old

Does this mean the fridge is faulty?

I'ts a Samsung RSH5UBMH about 4 years old

Certainly sounds like something in it has gone faulty, usually repairable.

Don't use your extension lead anywhere!  It's dangerous!  Using it would mean what ever you're feeding will have no earth.  The fridge metal case was likely live with some potential when plugged in via that extension.
