Underfloor ventilation for new extension
Apr 3rd, 2015, 11:13am

In order to ensure through airflow from the front of the house to the back, the guy drawing the plans for a ground floor side return extension has suggested excavating a 700mm void under the entire new floor area, laying a concrete base with floor joists running above the void. Builders I have spoken to have suggested a solid screed onto the ground with ventiation pipes running through. The latter is a lot easier as does not involve excavating the entire floor area.

Thoughts on why either may be more appropriate would be appreciated.

Thanks

Why not slide 2-3 ( depends what you need) 100mm duct pipes from where the  existing air bricks are to the back of the space, you could even drill several holes in the pipe to even the flow.

Forgot, you may need a vapour barrier over the pipes before you lay the floor.
