Ceiling paint peeling
May 6th, 2015, 6:39pm

Hi

Had my bathroom ceiling replastered 12 months ago
Now the paint over the shower is peeling
Is there a way to strip the paint completely so as to avoid a'patchy' finish
It was painted with a Kitchen and Bathroom type paint

Best Regard

If the ceiling wasn't primed with a thin coat of emulsion then you may find the paint will peel off relatively easily with a paint scraper ( the type that holds a Stanley blade works well as the blade soon dulls rubbing up against plaster) Alternatively if the paint is stuck fast, brush a thin coat of Pollyfilla over the line between the bare plaster and the paint. Once dry use sandpaper on a block to feather the edges to hide the step. It may take a couple of goes but it does work.

Thanks Woodsmith

I feared it was going to be something like this AKA hard work
I suppose a coat of PVA wouldn't go amiss after the prep work

Best Regards

I wouldn't use PVA unless you decide to skim the entire ceiling. There are paints available which cover slight irregularities, if you find the ceiling is marked then I would use one of these; PVA can be a very mixed blessing and not really suited as a primer before painting.
