Geberit cistern flush pipe leak
Nov 6th, 2016, 12:22pm

Hi all

I need some help please...
I have an approx 7 year old Geberit cistern inside a cabinet and the flush pipe connection is continually leaking. It leaks by dripping water down onto the soil pipe below then onto the floor of the cabinet. It leaks faster of course when the WC is flushed.  It is definitely the cistern end that is leaking not the pan end connection.

My questions to you are...
A) Does the flush pipe just pull out of the cistern?  As unlike some there is no nut to slacken or tighten.
B) What do I need to do to seal it?

Thanks for your anticipated help.

Guessing. There must be an O ring in there, have you tried pushing the pipe up it may have slipped down and just hanging in there.

This may help there are other type if you check.

Had same problem. Leak went through the floor to our dining room. It's a bad design. Rubber O-ring appeared to go hard and loose it's elasticity. They should have learned from the space shuttle booster disaster Smiley

They say in the instructions the flush pipe must be supported so that when you push the WC pan onto the pipe no load is transferred to this joint. I don't think that's enough to prevent it leaking.

Replacement O-rings were on sale on ebay but I noticed the seller had sold hundreds so this must be a common fault.

Consequences of a major leak at this point can be dire as when the water levels fall the cistern fill valve will open. Nothing to stop the whole reservoir leaking into your house.

Mine was so loose that if I laid the cistern down the weight of the L pipe was enough to make it rotate. Got a video of that somewhere.

I replaced whole cistern as I didn't want to have to retile my bathroom again to get access.

As I recall there is a plastic ring (bit like a "circlip") that holds the O-ring in place. Can see the ring here...

(I haven't checked that's the right seal but it looks like the one on mine from memory).

Thank you to all who replied.  Especially CW who was spot on.
I had to replace the rubber seal which is located up inside the non removeable cistern flush pipe connector. The rubber seal came with a new plastic fixing clip.  Leak stopped!
