Lamp fitting
Nov 20th, 2016, 7:39pm

Hi Guys

I wonder if someone can help.  I have a floor lamp where the bayonet fitting has snapped so it cannot hold a bulb any longer.

In order the replace the fitting I've purchased something similar to what you see in the attached picture.  The thing I'm unsure about is that it says on the packaging it's for ceiling lights so is it in fact safe to use in a lamp?

The only difference I can see is that the original lamp fitting had a switch built into it but I never used that once (can't reach it anyway) so it doesn't bother me that it's absent.

So my question is whether the ceiling fitting is in fact fit for purpose in a floor lamp or whether using it would be unsafe?

A lamp one would have a threaded cable entry to fix the lamp holder to the fitting.  A ceiling one is designed to hang on a flex.

Look half way down this page: http://www.cordsncables.co.uk/acatalog/B22_BC_Bayonet_Cap_Bakelite_Lamp_holders....
