Dripping mixer tap
Jan 24th, 2017, 2:10pm

I have recently moved into a new house which is over 100 yrs old and has various issues but the biggest one at the moment is the dripping shower mixer tap.
The hot and cold taps fill the bath as normal and I have changed the washers and O rings on them both.
The mixer handle in the middle is stiff to turn on and then the further it is turned the hotter the water coming out of the overhead shower.
But it cannot be turned off fully and water drips from the overhead shower and the mixer unit itself constantly. The central handle unscrews to open up a cavity underneath where I expected to find a screw to allow me access to a washer but there is nothing there.
The grub screw under the handle on the outside does not seem to do anything when removed either.
There is no manufacturers mark anywhere to help me.
Help! How do I stop the drip??

Perhaps post photos with it assembled and with the mixer handle removed.

Oops yes we can see your gallery. I should have looked.

Unfortunately I've not seen that type of shower fitting before.

You are probably going to have to replace the tap as these types of taps can be impossible to stop dripping when they get old. If you use this as a shower you could consider changing it for a thermostic one which although more expensive makes showering far more comfortable and safe.

Can I check.. Do you have to turn the taps on to have a shower? or does the shower control turn the water on/off as well as adjusting the temperature?
