New light fitting
Aug 26th, 2017, 7:56pm

Hi all I'm a newbe to this so bare with me, so the problem I have is this, my partner wants a new light in our bathroom so I'm no sparky anyway I take the old one off to expose the wiring and it all drops to the floor, well now I don't know what goes where, there are basically 3 grey cables each containing 1red wire, 1black wire and 1 without a sheath if that's the correct term I presume it's the earth, so this new light shows on the diagram live, earth and neutral so how do I wire it up, I will post pics if needed I just wanted some reassurance that it's not going to be a case of calling someone out so please give me a clue I would be grateful Thx.  Smiley

You need to identify which of you outer grey cables is your switch cable.  This can be done with a continuity meter, or by physically following the cable in the loft.

Once you know the switch cable, you should be able to see how to connect the wires.  All the reds in a terminal block on their own, earths to earth. Switch cable black to the light fittings live.  Both blacks of the other cables to the light fittings neutral.

While this link shows two way switching, it should help explain the rose.

Note the little red sleeve on the black wire from the switch in the image above. That might help identify the switch cable.
