Title: Plastering on soot.
Post by TwoSheds on Feb 10th, 2005, 6:04pm

I have removed a chimney breast in my 1895 built house and am preparing the walls before I call a plasterer in.  The fire has left soot deposits on the bricks.  I have scraped off as much as I can but there's still a lot left on the bricks. Should I treat the bricks with anything to stop the soot leaching through the plaster etc? Advice appreciated please.

If it is to be rendered and skimmed no need to do anything it will not come through... the plasterer will do his own prep.

Thanks Robbo.  Job done, plasterer used sand/cement render and looks good.
