Title: Two gang light switch
Post by mdooley on Jul 24th, 2008, 10:26am

Hello,

After yesterdays panic I decided to look over the switch wiring and I have come unstuck! I have one 240w light and six low voltage spotlights. these are controlled by one two gang switch. The wiring is baffling to me though, 3 brown wires and thats my lot. I have conected one to L1 and one to L2 on the 240w light and one to L1 on the spots and then a conecting wire between the coms or com. All I seem to have done is wired a two way switch for the 24w light and nothing for the spots.........I need help.

Thanks.

Are there any blues in a terminal block in the switch box?  If so, leave these there!

Sounds like you have misslaid the small piece of brown wire that links the two commons.

You should have the constant live connected to both coms, using this little of-cut of brown.  The other two browns will be the switched live to each set of lights, and go into the two L1's.

You need to identify which is the constant live first.

Lectrician - he mentions a "conecting wire between the coms or com" so prob not that.

I reckon you have the permanant live and one of the switched lives mixed up.

Too many confusin statements. At first I agree with Lec, then reading again -

Is it a 'Two Gang' switch (as per the subject title) is it a 'Two Way' switch as per content text? Big difference betwen these two definitions.
