Title: Plasterboard construction panels?
Post by Twobarrows on Mar 24th, 2009, 8:29am

I have just moved to a house that is about 20 years old. Upstairs internal walls are a sort of construction board, two layers of plasterboard seperated by a honeycomb of cardboard. Does anyone know what this is called?
It's a real pain in the posterior as I like to fix heavier objects to studs, but can't find any!!!
It was also quite scary knocking off the bathroom tiles, normally on a stud wall I would have ripped off the plasterboard with tiles & started again (glueing & screwing board).

having dealt with a set up of that waffle type board early last year i can tell you that they came in various set widths, but mostly 4 foot wide were used, and had small voids in the egg-crate material at the sides to allow slotting over small timbers to which they were affixed to...

due to the damp state and the fact that the egg crate harbours mould , that you can't see at all.. we prudently ripped it all out and put up stud work on 16" ctrs, with Hardie- Backer board to tile on to, as they were back to back bathrooms...

Thanks Wolf, I'm not sure I like the stuff; I may pull it out in the shower, but I'll have to leave it elsewhere.
