Title: Coloured glass worktop Post by runninwata on Nov 2nd, 2010, 9:04pm Good evening! I am on the orders of SWMBO to fit a coloured glass sushi shelf on top of four stainless steel legs on our nearly finished kitchen (the one that was started a year ago) my question is .... are there any definitive tables for the support and thickness of glass that should be used in this situation, the thinner the better for appearance sake, it will be toughened as standard. but dont wont it to go ccccccrrraaaaaaasssssssssshhhhhhh if mrs puts a plate or few on top of it thanks in advance Steve |
Title: Re: Coloured glass worktop Post by CWatters on Nov 4th, 2010, 5:12pm We have a glass "chopping" board. Got it from Ikea or somewhere. It appears to be slightly under 4mm thick. It's about A3 in size and has four silicon pad feet (eg one in each corner) so the middle is unsupported. The shelves in our fridge are similar thickness. I think if I was going to make one I'd go slightly thicker so it feels more solid. We've not managed to break ours but 6mm would feel more solid. |
Title: Re: Coloured glass worktop Post by runninwata on Nov 9th, 2010, 8:24pm sorry, forgot to say the glass would be approx 2.0m long x 300mm wide and supported at 500mm centres, I am trying to get the supplier to stiump up the information although they are a little hesitant! steve |
Title: Re: Coloured glass worktop Post by CWatters on Nov 10th, 2010, 8:52am I'd have thought 6mm would be ok for that. If anywhere near Cambridge perhaps give these people a call. They made the frameless showers for our house. Web site looks a bit flash but they are really a small friendly outfit. Have used them a few times since the 1980's. http://www.goglass.co.uk/ |

Title: Re: Coloured glass worktop Post by runninwata on Nov 14th, 2010, 9:13pm No Contact from goglass, my local supplier came up with calculations, in their experience a slab of glass 9mm thick will do the job perfectly, Thanks for the input, will post some pics once all in situ cheers Steve |
