History...
Bought house, moved in, set of vertical blinds on sun lounge window.
I pulled the cord to open the blinds and the whole contraption fell off !

It was fitted by I assume the normal brackets but fixed on the underside of what would be the top of the window using normal plastic plugs so not surprised it fell down.

I then bought the nylon self drive plugs with screw from b&Q and then discovered at 25mm they were too long (the shortest I could find) It looks like there is no spave between the plasterboard and and the supporting sill. The plugs even when cut shorter did not screw in flush with the plasterboard.

So the question is ....what to use to fix the brackets to the `ceiling` part of the window frame? (Not really possible to fix the brackets on the vertical,due to awkward woodwork)

am i misunderstanding this
do you have a substantial bit off wood behind the plasterboard where you are trying to fix??

I dont think so I am suspecting the plasterboard is directly in contact with the lintel, the original rawplugs (that fell out) were snipped to make them shorter.
It maybe a metal lintel.
Only been in the house 4 days so just finding my way around at the moment, and finding the usual `hidden` problems. ;-)

to find out what type of lintol that is above the plaster board, use a worn out drill bit,of smaller dia than the existing fixing hole, and drill up slowly and carefully into the hole and into/up against what the lintol is.... if concrete dust covers the worn drill bit, then you need to use a drill with the correct size masonary bit in to lengthen the fixing holes, if the bit is covered/has metal filings stuck to it, then a high speed steel bit is needed to extend the holes....

most new build do seem to stick plaster board to lintols.... :(

Sounds like a catnic lintel - all-steel.

Or - reinforced concrete lintel with internal steel rods, but if it's new-build, it'll most likely be the former.

Do they use plasterboard in the USA.
