Title: Air Vent In Door Post by Lectrician on Oct 14th, 2011, 2:56pm I have been asked to fit a couple air vents when I am next on site. The doors are the bog standard darkish wooden effect type used in offices. The vents are an attempt to let some heat out of two cupboards under the stairs where the phone equipment is (keeps crashing due to heat). Any pointers to a type which looks OK? Brown would obviously be neater. Ta. |

It has to be a couple vents in the door (which will then remain). They dont want a fan - I suggested a fan and a grill - the fan going through the wall to an office the otherside, which is air conditioned! |

You'd be relying on convection alone. One at bottom and the other at top might do it. Louvres would probably be the best type, the ones at the bottom 'pointed' down, the ones at the top 'pointed' up to aid free flow. It's a finger in the air job! |

I know it will do very little, and it's on our recommendation they move the kit, which will happen during a shut down next year. Too much going on to do it now. When they want something doing, it's best just to do it, even if you don't fully agree! We have worked for the company for over 20yrs as a company ourself, and maintain their 5 sites. I just want to find a decent looking vent, as one door is in the main foyer and circulation area! |

Title: Re: Air Vent In Door Post by Joiner on Oct 15th, 2011, 6:38am In that case, I would think a replacement louvre door would be as cheap as fitting two vents, by the time you've bought and cut out to fit them. Though that said, if it is just a temporary bodge to make them feel better, I guess cutting two holes and whacking a couple of cheap vents over them would do, as long as it's a solid door, if not then you'll only need two more cheap vents for the inside to smarten it up. Title: Re: Air Vent In Door Post by Lectrician on Oct 19th, 2011, 11:04am So, if I was to cut a vent into a fire door, and fit a standard grill each side, would a standard intumiscent fire pillow (as placed inside trunking and ducting as it travels through walls) be suitable.......cause thats pretty cheap and easy! You used to place a couple in a piece of trunking and they would expand on fire, but these days they do recommend filling the trunking with them as much as you can, leaving no space........so no air flow :-[ |
