Title: Wall Papering
Post by Lectrician on Dec 10th, 2011, 8:21pm

I am pretty good at papering, but have always gone for decent paper - the type that feels a little stretchy, has an almost silky feel to the backing paper etc.

The misses has chosen some paper for one wall in the bedroom which has a really rough feel to the back of it.  I have had issues with paper like this before - bubbles, creases etc, and generally a real pig to hang.

What is the best way to hang paper like this?  Any top tips?

Get the wife to hang it on the principle that if she thinks it's easy to hang, then get on with it.  ::)

The wall is block, scratch coat, skimmed.  The wall isn't in too bad a condition.

The misses has offered to strip the old paper :o  I can imagine the carnage, so expect I will do that myself too  ;D

size the wall first (and let it soak in, )

paste the paper, then just prior to hanging each piece, apply with a roller another coat of size/paste, not to thickly, just enough to moisten the surface....

If you suffered creases and bubbles, Lec, you probably didn't let the paper soak for long enough.

Paste a length and let it soak until it is nice and pliable. If you feel comfortable with it paste a couple of lengths at a time so one is soaking while you are hanging the other one.
