I want to paint a rendered fireplace alcove prior to installing a wood burning stove. Can I use regular emulsion/wall paint or should be be using heat resistant type?

my rendered fireplace is just painted with wickes trade white emulsion. the bit directly behind the stove (well out of sight) has yellowed quite badly, but other than that it's fine. get's repainted every year, as it gets marked lots from puting logs in there to dry out

Whatever you use will discolour eventually, so do what natedog does and keep it painted on a regular basis.
