Title: Level 2 16Amp car charger
Post by Flashbang on Dec 23rd, 2015, 6:03pm

I'm considering getting a Mitsubishi Hybrid car with mains recharging facilty. While the car comes with a 13 Amp plug-in charger (about 7 hours) it is recommended to instal a 16Amp level 2 charger.  (3 hour charge)

What's so special with the circuit feeding the L2 charger?  Cable size - 2.5 mm2, 4.0mm2, 6mm2 T&E?, MCB or RCBO rating at the nearest location to the L2 charger or in the main consumer unit etc.

Happy Christmas to all

Just a 16amp RCD protected supply.

You can get them installed for free through car dealers, via the government scheme.  A local sparky will be on the list of approved installers.

Thanks both for your replies.
I took the PHEV car for a test run on Saturday and immediatly disliked it!  So no charging socket needed, just a nearby garage selling petrol/Derv for the forseeable future.  :)

Out of nosiness, what about it put you off?  For a while now I've been toying with a twizzy

Hi
It was too 'plasticey' inside. Seats were on the short side. Road noise was fairly high too! Performance was on the sluggish side.  Currently I have a Hyundia Santa Fe Premium SE which by far exceeds the Outlander PHEV! But the fuel saving of a Hybred seemed to be good hence the trial.
