Title: Replacing an old Potterton FSB
Post by wozzer on Sep 15th, 2016, 10:34am

My mum and Dad have an old Potterton 30/34 floor standing boiler with what looks like a cement-fibre flue that goes straight up and through the roof.
The system is gravity fed as far as hot water goes, I believe, there is no option for hot water only, anyway. There is an old Venner times witch in the boiler cupboard which is now broken.
Is it possible to replace this with a modern floor standing boiler, add Y plan and a proper programmer? Oh, and can the flue still go the same way?
All advice and recommendation appreciated.
I can't rip out the boiler cupboard and fit a wall-mounted boiler by the way.

Anything is possible, with a lot of added hassle.

You need to be able to get the condensation away, either outside or drain, the same as the PRV.

Flues can be a problem and limits your choice considerably, whereas it would be much better to try and relocate the boiler to an outside wall.

Gas pipe is also another major issue and will almost certainly need upgrading.
