Title: Unvented cylinder
Post by Tanman on Dec 28th, 2016, 7:16pm

I understand that as a DIYer that I'm not allowed to work on an unvented cylinder but am I allowed to replace the pressure regulator (3.5 bar) that controls the cold water feed to the cylinder? It is starting to leak and hot water pressure has been dropping over the last couple of weeks. This seems the most likely culprit.

To be 100% accurate, hot water pressure is initially good, then drops off after 2 - 3 seconds but then after 7 - 8 seconds does recover a bit.

Who would know if you did?

I've have a few pressure reducers/regulators and and have found they age over time and the pressure or flow rate drops. I've had to break the paper label seal and adjust them up a bit to correct for this. Not had them leak.

Well I went ahead and took the valve apart anyway. Sure enough, the internal seal was disintegrating and the mechanism rusted solid. New valve on order.
