Title: Instaling a 3 phase 6 pole motor to run a 4kw PMG.
Post by Swaleyp on Feb 18th, 2017, 9:18am

Hello,

I have obtained a 3 phase motor that I need to cable up to the mains. The setup of L1, 2 & 3 is a little confusing. However, I have worked out the requirement for 240V.

I need to know how i install live, neutal and earth wires, can I power the motor from a standard house socket..

Cheers
Pete

You cannot connect a three phase motor to a standard 230/240v supply.

The windings can be configured for a 400 or 230v supply, but both need to be three phase supplies.

The only way you can connect a three phase motor to a single phase supply is to use an inverter - and this usually works out more expensive than purchasing a new motor!

OK, thanks. Will exchange this for a single phase..

What's a PMG?
