Title: Baxi Duo Tech 40GA combi Fault
Post by mike4369 on Dec 29th, 2017, 11:02am

Twice this boiler has thrown up the E9 fault which is given as a wiring loom fault "Gas valve connection cable". This has tested ok and replaced. Fault reappeared a couple of days later, I managed to reset the boiler by giving it a good thump on the cover ( ::) and it has worked. Does anyone have info as to what can cause this fault, bad solder joint or PCB fault.

Fault came up again E09 Gas valve wiring fault so this time I have replaced the loom to the valve hoping that this will cure it. If anyone has any more info on this fault I would very much appreciate your comments.

Check the earthing wires are making good contact, other than that the gas valve or pcb but both can be checked by a qualified engineer

Fault came on twice in one day - both times cured by just unplugging the gas valve wiring loom and plugging it in - reset boiler and runs ok - this fault is bugging me as if it is the gas valve then that should come up as another fault code, if the PCB was at fault then why does boiler work for weeks then fault out? Tried Baxi and they are useless - must be a trade secret???

I'm just an electronics engineer but...

It could be very hard for the controller to tell the difference between a short/open circuit in the wiring loom vs one in the valve.

Perhaps a loose contact in the connector? Edit: Ah I see you have already replaced the wiring.

Thanks I will get the gas valve replaced and see what that produces. What has bugged me is that the fault is intermittent and there's no real pattern to it.
BTW I'm just an electrical engineer too.

PCB and Gas valve changed - engineer stated it could also be the igniter but we'll see what happens. Apparently, this type of boiler was nothing but trouble when introduced. So if anyone has any more info on common faults please post them.

Most parts can be checked electrically before your engineer chucks parts at it.

If it gets silly expensive/unreliable, replace the boiler with an Intergas.
