Title: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by juco on Jan 28th, 2018, 3:54pm Father-In-Law has lost the fuse and fuse holder for his charger for his mobility scooter. (Roma Lyon) I am trying to purchase both for him but unsure of fuse size, mobility companies not replying. Charger is Input 115/230v AC, 60/50Hz 3/1.5A Output: 24V DC/ 5A Batteries are: 2 x 12V 34AH (in series 24V) Can anyone give me an idea as to what size of fuse (Amps) would be required for the charger output. |
Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by Natedog on Jan 28th, 2018, 7:13pm If the output is meant to be 5A then chances are it will be a little more than that for the fuse. Probably either 7.5 or 10 at a guess, but that is only a guess |
Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by juco on Jan 28th, 2018, 7:32pm Thanks Natedog, that makes sense to me as a layman (dont understand this elec stuff) I did find another label on the side which states: "Fuse 10A 125V" So the 10A would stack up but where does the 125V kick in for the fuse as input is 230/240V AC and output is 24V DC, is it some sort of over-protection? Or maybe a standard size fuse? |
Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by CWatters on Jan 29th, 2018, 7:01pm A fuse rated 125V can be used on lower voltages (eg 12, 24, 48V) but not the other way around. Perhaps contact.. http://romamedical.co.uk/product-category/mobility-scooters/mid-size-scooters/ |

Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by juco on Jan 31st, 2018, 11:39am Sorry about delay in replying but I am not getting email notifications. Not sure what type of fuse, see image. [gallery fullsize]juco/1517398748.jpg[/gallery] |
Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by Lectrician on Jan 31st, 2018, 5:17pm It's probably easier to get a whole new fuse carrier from Maplin, CPC or RS. You would need to solder it in though. As said, a 10amp slow blow fuse is probably best, as long as the voltage rating is higher than 24v. |
Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by juco on Jan 31st, 2018, 6:13pm I will order from ebay, soldering should be ok. |

Never been aware of voltage ratings on a fuse before but a quick Google explains all. |
Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by CWatters on Feb 2nd, 2018, 6:41am I notice one picture says "bypass fuse". I strongly recommend you don't do that. As recommended above a new holder from Maplin is only a few £. |
Title: Re: Help with size of fuse for mobility scooter Post by Lectrician on Feb 2nd, 2018, 7:30am I wonder if the fuse blew for a reason? Perhaps the charger has had it ::) |
