Title: Dormer windows-wooden clad
Post by newbie18 on Aug 15th, 2018, 2:54pm

Just moved into a dormer semi detached requiring a lot of work and modernisation but I’m not very clued up on dormers at all.

The current windows in them are MASSIVE, would we have to replace like for like or is it a big job to replace them with smaller windows?  Also, would it be worth replacing the existing wooden cladding with PVC cladding or is there anything else you can replace it with even?

Thanks!

How well insulated are the sides and roof of the dormer? It might be worth fitting smaller windows so you can fit thicker insulation.

You can replace the cladding with wood, plastic or hanging tiles depending on what you think looks good and can afford.

You don't normally need planning permission for this sort of thing unless in a conservation area or similar. Check with the planning office.
