Okay everyone, you can blame BigAl, Jasonb and Dewy for this.... Thanks for the info
I am restoring a circa 1910 kauri pine extendable table with turned legs. It has previously had an oil and wax finish.
I am attempting to remove the old finish from the legs with metho and steel wool, but this is leaving a milky residue (on the legs).
Any tips on how best to remove this old finish? I have been advised that steel wool may not be the best option.
Another good site I have found is
