Loft Ladder Query
Apr 30th, 2004, 9:46pm

Someone has asked me to put in a loft ladder. Usually no problem, but in this instance.....

In the following I will use compass coordinates to describe the problem (N, E, S, W).

The loft hatch is on the upstairs landing (surprise, surprise!). It is located between two walls, E + W, and at the junction where the trusses come down to the loft floor.

Problem is that when you open the loft hatch the trusses run E -> W. And so installing a regular loft ladder would mean that it can't be folded up in the N/S direction because the trusses are in the way. It would only fit if installed in the E/W direction.

And that infers that when the loft ladder is dropped down the person getting into the loft has their backside firmly wedged against the E (or W) wall - not very convenient.

I really need to install a loft ladder which is situated in the N/S direction.

Anyone familiar with a loft ladder that rises vertically rather than folds and rotates?

Thanks for that - I recall seeing this in Reading CostCo for about the same price.

How long did it take to fit if I may ask? I would have thought 3-4 hours seeing as you have to remove the old loft hatch, presumably cut the hatch area about and make good etc.

Not sure if you have to pay extra for the divine light that shines down through the hatch when the ladder is in use  Cheesy  Cheesy

The photo has to be on a website.
Then you post its URL, highlight the URL & click on the 3rd button from the left bottom row to put the image tags round it.
