Cast Iron Gutters
May 15th, 2004, 12:30am

After some unsuccessful attempts at a long term repair to cast guttering, I've decided that replacement is the best option.

Any advice as to joining the cast to plastic, best adaptors etc gratefully received. - This is for the end of a terrace, where the rest is cast & also need to connect to cast downpipe.

Cheers, in anticipation folks.

pvc will fit into the downpipe easly- aslong as you connect at a joint...usualy the top one- however cast iron downpipes are a pain in the ass- given the choice again id replace mine!

You can buy cast iron to plastic adaptors.

Terrain for example; 41/2" half round to plastic is,
2158.4.43 or 2158.4.45 spigot for cast iron socket.

as above socket to fit plain end gutter,
2159.4.43 or 2159.4.45.

for ogee gutter the numbers are,
2168.4.45 spigot and 2169.4.45 socket.

Check with your building control first as some insist on replacing like for like.

Drainage castings may hold a stock, Pipeline/Plumb center will be able to order.

But any good builders merchants should be ably to get them.

My local Drainage centre (part of plumb centre) keep a pretty big range in stock, handy when you need to go back for the small bit you only find you need half way through the job. This stuff is damn heavy I caught a small piece and it tore the ligament in my thumb.
