Regs state all accessories between 450mm and 1.2m (so bottom of socket 450mm from the finished floor level, and switches, 1.2 m to te top of the switch)

I have seen many people just match up to the heights they have in the rest of the house, I think is ok to do.

Work tops??  We usually do al accessories to 1.2m to the top, this means all sockets and switches in a kitchen/utility are the same heights

Hope this helps.  Happy chasing.

The blue OSG shows at 450mm for sockets, telephone points etc. and 1.2m for lights, door bell pushes etc.

BUT I think that there was an amendement in 2003 that raised the heights for sockets, telephone points and lowered then for light switches, door bells etc. (all to do with disabled and older peoples reach etc.) - not too sure and will check. But as Lectrician says you can match the existing locations the above are all to do with new completely new installations and not retrospective.

450mm / 1.2m was the new regs for  disabled etc

1.2 TO TOP OF SWITCH

450mm TO BOTTOM OF SOCKET

Seen so many people do 1.2 to the bottom Smiley

I read that building reg about the new heights and as Rabbit says it is a reg for new builds only but ive been keeping to those heights all the time recently but thought people would complain about the sockets being a third of the way up the wall as being unsightly  but no complaints yet

Is it building regs then Tellodon? Makes sense as they tend to be more sensitive about such issues. Look stupid with sockest and light switches almost at same height, but then I am not disabled (and before Handy says anything - physically Andrew!).

But it has to apply to new buildings surely - can ya imagine in some old thatched cottage fitting sockets up close the the ceiling!! lmao

Have had to fit all my sockets at 1mtr from f.f.l.(new regs)  looked ridiculous when chased but not bad at all now I look at them every day and house is nearly complete. Also had to install wet room at downstairs level to comply with disabled regs.
Lights are gonna be a pain though cus my lad is just turning two and can reach the switches so all he wants to do is go round the house switching on all the lights and with another on the way this could be a problem for a few years yet.

Don't the regs only cover living rooms hallways and the bog (ie rooms disabled or infirm visitors may use) unless the house is designed specifically for the creaky & broken?. Only going from memory here so poss way out.

I go by what's already in a room unless it's all being renewed or the outlets are hidden by sofas etc. Then LIM it on the form.... am I being naughty? the customers seem to prefer it.   Embarrassed

personally i hate the idea of haveing sockets high up

because it mean if a vacum cleaner flex say get pulled tight then you will have a high flex near the walls ready to smash stuff

depends where the socket is surely, however have it ground floor level you have to bend down  Shocked.....and theres the risk you pull it tight and some one will trip up, saying that I blame all the short cables, people tend to pull the cables like some kind of tight rope!
