Boiler needs reseting!
Nov 13th, 2004, 10:41am

Hi, my boiler needs reseting nearly every day.  It's a glowworm spacesaver and it powers a flowmax heatstore that heats the hot water and the central heating.

I had a so-called heating engineer out yesterday, who serviced it, but could not find any faults.  This morning it failed to fire again.

Every time I press the reset button, it works OK, then some time later it trips again.

Any ideas,
Thanks
Dave

Can't say I know too much about this boiler, but it sounds like a pump over-run problem.

Check the pump is working, and time the over-run when the boiler switches off.

will try to find out a bit more in the meantime.

Hi, thanks

It's a KFB 50.

One thing I have noticed is that when the boiler fires the electronic egnition takes about 30 second before the mail burner kicks in, I'm not sure if this is normal?

hi,

to time when the overrun takes, is this the time after the programmer turns of the central heating pump?

the over-run if it has one will keep the pump running for several minutes after the boiler shuts down.

still trying to find info ( my son is out ) and it more his line, so hang in there.

Hi,

It does have an over run, I will time it later.

Hi gecko,

Not forgotten you, spoke to glowworm technical today, and they suggest it is either the overheat stat £23 ish or the thermostat £38 ish both plus fitting.

cost wise probably better to change both while the engineer is on site, about an hours work.

Hi,

You've been a great help!

I will probably try to change these myself, I think I should be able to manage the job.  I'm assuming that I won't need to interfere with any of the gas components.

The overheat thermostat could be faulty but it
is just as likely that the appliance is actually overheating. Check
calibration of boiler thermostat, operation of pump overrun and that there
is an adequate bypass circuit.

hmm...

well, there are radiators in the system without thermostatic valves, so these will act as a bypass?

I have not timed the overrun yet.
