Removing wall tiles

What's the best method for removing wall tiles?

I've used a hammer and bolster chisel before but it takes forever. I have heard of people using and SDS drill with chisel attachment though.

Anyone tried this? Is it possible to get an SDS drill with chisel that doesn't cost the earth?  Embarrassed

A lot depends on the condition and type of wall as an SDS Drill and tile removing chisel can do more harm than good.

I would only use mine on floors or walls that are rendered, not on old or modern soft plaster and definatly not on plasterboard. Most of the time I just use a 2 1/4" bolster.

Although you can pick up a cheap SDS plus machine for around £50 you will have to pay another £30 for a decent tile removing bitso unless you are doing it on a regular basis best stick with the bolster.

I use one of these http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=102084&ts=11816&id=26240... and a hammer.

Put the right angled part against the wall , with the "teeth" against the tile edge and hit with the hammer. Very effective Grin

I have just removed the tiles in my kitchen, most of the adhesive is left behind but some of the plaster from the plasterboard has come off in small patches.  How do I prepare the surface to be re-tiled?

Rip off all the plasterboard that had been tiled & re-board.

to chippymal

never ever buy anything from qvc. it is a gross error of judgement.trust me,whatever it is,it will not work. i've still got my 'high pressure car cleaning attachment' to remind me of one of the biggest mistakes of my life

best regards

Have a read of the URL for the QVC item, part of it reads,'Fukgasp'! Sounds like someone at QVC has a sense of humour (you'd have to to buy one of those things!).
