Decorators Caulk - Painting Over
Aug 23rd, 2006, 2:22pm

Hi - only used this once before and got it so wrong.  The gaps are small between some wood capping and the plastered wall.  What is the best way to apply and to prepare for paint?  Also does it need priming?

It takes a bit of getting used too, but after a while it becomes easier.

The trick is to have a container with warm soapy water and a damp cloth, when you go along the skirtings say, start of about 10 inches (till you get the hang of it), then dip your finger in the warm soapy water, then gently smooth it along, this gives it a nice smooth finish, and stops the filler sticking to your fingers. if you get any on the facing side of the wood, then get your cloth and gently wipe off.

If you have had your tube lying around for a while, or its slow in coming out, or its coming out a bit lumpy, then place the tube in very hot water for approx 2 mins, this softens up the filler, and makes it come out of the tube smoother and easier. Smiley

Hammy, how many times have we chucked  half tubes away cause its gone a bit solid, especially in the winter you have some in your van, and when you go to use it, its so hard to pull the trigger so you end up chucking it away.
Even if its really cold by being in your van
just put it in very hot water, and turn the tube over a couple of times, but dont leave it too long, cause it will pi55 out lol.

Well to be honest hammy I did have a quick glance at the trade forum bit, and if you want to join apparently you have show a registered  company name or something, and I am not a company, just me myself and I, lol  maybe I have got it wrong, like I said I just had a quick look, but the impression I got was you have to send in details of your company/business or something, all I have is business cards. Sad

Cora, I got into the Trade Area by pretending to be a builder.  Shocked  You don't have to be a company but you do have to be working 'in the trade'.  I assume you are doing this?

Apply now, it's much more fun up there in the Trade Area  Cheesy

Same as me Cora, one man band, but you're a business all the same.
I think a business card will get you in, scan one in and see what happens.  Smiley
